Today, we are rolling out an important update to how we verify account eligibility on Kukini.

Why We’re Making This Change

Federal and state laws in the United States—most notably the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and state legislation like Texas’s SB 2420—require digital platforms to ensure that children under the age of 13 do not create unmonitored accounts or have personal data processed without explicit, verifiable parental consent.

Similar laws in other states (including Utah and Louisiana) will take effect in 2027. As regulations evolve, we want to ensure Kukini remains fully compliant, transparent, and proactive in protecting young users.

How Age Verification Works (and How We Protect Your Privacy)

We know that privacy matters—especially when it comes to family data. That’s why we designed our age check to be privacy-preserving:

• Powered by Device & Store APIs: Instead of asking for your date of birth, social security number, or photo ID, Kukini uses official iOS and Android native store APIs.
• Zero Unnecessary Data Collection: The app store simply returns a secure signal confirming whether your account meets the 13+ age requirement. Kukini never receives or stores your actual birthdate or full identity details.
• Platform Availability:
  • iOS: All US users will see a quick prompt in the app to confirm eligibility.
  • Android: Users in Texas will be prompted starting with this release, with additional states being supported as state regulations take effect.
• Web Dashboard Access: If you use Kukini on the web, age verification must first be completed through the Kukini mobile app on your smartphone before logging in online.

What Happens If an Account Is Non-Compliant?

If an account does not pass the 13+ age check or cannot be verified, access to Kukini will be restricted. Non-compliant users will have the option to log out or permanently delete their account and associated data directly from the app.
